Looking like a mix of ‘Minority Report’ and ‘Inception’, the new trailer for the remade ‘Total Recall’ has arrived, but can it manage to offer a fresher version of a classic that probably didn’t need a remake?
It’s very possible that many a head was scratched when a remake of the Arnie Sci-Fi Classic was announced, but the early signs are good going by this trailer, which provides enough to whet the appetite for what I first regarded as an error coming just over twenty years since the brilliant original; but twenty years is a long time in movies and technical filmmaking has come a long way in that time.
Starring Colin Farrell (who has some pretty big action boots to fill!), looking slightly beefier than normal, the story looks intact with a slightly darker and grander looking future than the unique style of Paul Verhoeven’s 1990 classic.
An action loaded two and half minutes, there’s a brilliant panning and zooming recall lab take down, that faithfully replays one of the original’s classic scenes.
My hope is, that while clearly inspired by many other recent Sci-Fi offerings, 2012’s ‘Recall’ will manage to somehow offer a unique and justified reinterpretation of the Philip K.Dick novel when it’s released on 22nd August.
