At last night’s Oscar ceremony it was all things French that where the big winners with ‘The Artist’ picking up 5 Awards, including the big three; Best Picture, Best Director and Best actor, with relative French unknown Jean Dujardin pipping international superstars George Clooney and Brad Pitt.
Martin Scorcese’s ‘Hugo’ also picked up 5 Awards in technical categories.
As previously mentioned on this here blog, i still haven’t seen ‘The Artist’ so I must now surely check it out and finally pay it the respect it clearly deserves.
Meryl Streep won Best Actress for her role in ‘The Iron Lady’. A lot of pre ceremony talk was that she may be pipped by Viola Davis for her role in ‘The Help’ but for me, surely it was always going to be Streep’s night as there can be no underestimating how brilliant and consuming a performance it was. There can surely have never been a greater actress.
Go with me on this one, but in the two horse race for Best song, I cannot say how pleased I am that “Man or Muppet” won. A truly hilarious self parody, in a great, fun film – The Muppets.
It was a scant night for British Films with ‘The Shore’ the most notable winner in the short film category.
All in all it turned out to be a fairly predictable night, with many of the pre ceremony favourites winning awards, following on from successes at the Golden Globes and The Bafta’s.
