‘Perfect’ Trilogies

One day to go to seeing Star Wars Episode 1 in 3D on the big screen (yay!) and I know I have been going on about it!

Anyway, flaws of the Star Wars prequel trilogy are well known and  if we’re being honest they never quite measured up to the original trilogy – but how was it ever going to?  This led me to thinking about trilogies/sagas and if there are any ‘perfect’ trilogies where all of the films in the saga are rated as 5 star/brilliant films.

‘Lord of the Rings’  instantly springs to mind and for me, each of the films in the LOTR saga are worthy of a 5 star rating on their own.

Arguably, I cannot say that for Star Wars and even the original trilogy was flawed with Return of the Jedi not measuring up to ‘A New Hope’ and ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ – two of THE greatest movies ever made, making ROTJ’s shortcomings perhaps unfairly; more obvious.

Can you think of any perfect trilogies/sagas?

suggestions: Lord of the Rings, Bourne, Alien trilogy (1 to 3 only though so perhaps doesn’t qualify, controversial and may be a stretch, but I think Alien 3 was far better than what a lot of critics made out) and Toy Story.
